USA Today reports Brooklyn Jones of St. Louis has plead not guilty to felonies over the allegations against him.

 

Accusations Stand from Written Statement to Airline

According to the newspaper, Jones was working at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) when the theft allegedly occurred. After an internal investigation, he reportedly offered a written statement to Southwest admitting to the thefts. When police further escorted him to his locker, USA Today claims Jones had over 110 vouchers still in his possession, worth a total of $36,300.

 

After he was placed under arrest, Jones told authorities his alleged thefts totaled $79,000. The newspaper claims he also said that he received money for the vouchers “at least four different times” between August and September 2023. It is unclear if he sold the vouchers to other people for discounted travel, or if he was using them for his own travels.

 

Bert Fulk, an attorney representing Jones, told USA Today that the case against his client is based on “probable cause statement that appears to rely heavily on third-party statements.” He went on to say: “We look forward to the discovery process and reserve the right to comment in the future upon receipt and review of the specific discovery in this matter.”

 

Jones has not been convicted of a crime and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

 

The case marks the second time in over a year a Southwest employee stood accused of using fake travel vouchers for their gain. In June 2023, DaJuan Martin was charged with 12 counts of wire fraud after being accused of printing “Southwest Luv Vouchers” under fake names, then selling them at “below market value” for cash.
