The company announced the launch of Alaska Access, advertised as a new way “to save on travel planning and costs.”
New Bundle Includes Early Sale Access, Fare Page, and Wi-Fi Voucher
According to the Seattle-based airline, the service is based on consumer demand for tailored experiences. Executives says Access will make “travel more affordable” while simplifying the overall passenger experience.
The new subscription service, priced at $5 per month, features three key benefits. First, Access members will get the first notification for airfare sales via the Alaska Airlines app. With the early notice, members can book flights immediately to guarantee seats on the most in-demand flights.
Next, Access members will get a customized airfare pricing page based on their travel interests and budget. The personalized page will organize flights by origin to 500 global destinations priced in both cash and Alaska Mileage Plan miles.
Finally, each member will receive one free wi-fi voucher per month to use aboard a flight. The voucher will be available to flyers immediately when they sign up for Access. The voucher is a value of between $8 and $24.99, based on the aircraft flyers are traveling aboard.
While the move is unique for a major airline, it isn’t the first time a U.S.-based carrier created a subscription for flyers. Both Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines have subscription clubs for their frequent flyers, which include lowest fare access and exclusive deals for subscribers.
