The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA announced that flight attendants at both PSA Airlines (operating American Eagle flights) and Frontier Airlines have overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike on September 17 and 18, 2024, respectively.
Unions Say Flight Attendants Demanding Living Wage and Return to Negotiating Table
At PSA Airlines, 99.2% of those casting a ballot voted to authorize the strike. For Frontier Airlines, 99.6% of the ballots came back positive to authorize the strike. The union says at the heart of both issues is securing a living wage for their organized members.
For PSA, the union says their workers are fighting for “double-digit base pay increases, increased pay for time at work including boarding, sick leave, work rule improvements,” and other concessions. The union requested mediation in January 2024 but claim they didn’t get a proposal from airline management until seven months later.
In the case of Frontier Airlines, AFA-CWA says the carrier is unwilling to negotiate around their new business model. They claim the new way of doing business “has a significant negative effect on the working lives of the over 4,000 Flight Attendants in a way not contemplated under the negotiated collective bargaining agreement.”
If the flight attendants at both airlines are allowed to walk the picket line, the union says they will employ their “CHAOS” model, which could affect either a flight or the entire system without any warning. The AFA-CWA must be released from mediation before either group of flight attendants can strike.
Neither Frontier nor PSA Airlines have publicly commented about the labor actions.
