The two airlines announced expanded benefits across both airlines for both American AAdvantage status flyers and JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic passengers.
New Benefits Include Extra Legroom, Same Day Changes and Free Checked Luggage
Since the announcement of the Northeast Alliance, the two carriers have worked together to ensure elite flyers on either carrier get extra perks when they travel. The new allowances are in addition to the previously announced benefits, which include airport priority check-in, expedited security lanes and priority boarding.
For TrueBlue Mosaic members aboard American, elite flyers can get complimentary Main Cabin Extra seating on all American-operated flights. Like American AAdvantage Gold flyers, the free seat selection is based on availability and can only be chosen at the time of check-in.
Mosaic flyers can also take advantage of up to two complimentary checked bags when aboard American flights through self-tagging and drop-off at marked counters. This benefit is available for up to eight passengers on the same itinerary as the Mosaic member.
Conversely, all American AAdvantage elite flyers aboard JetBlue operated flights can select Even More Space seats when available. While this benefit is currently only available at the JetBlue airport kiosk or JetBlue.com, it will be rolled out to the JetBlue app in a matter of days.
American AAdvantage Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members will also be able to take advantage of complimentary same-day confirmed flight changes aboard either airline. In addition, Admiral’s Club members will be welcomed at the lounges when flying JetBlue, including the newest addition at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York.
“American and JetBlue are committed to delivering a seamless travel experience to customers through our Northeast Alliance,” Alison Taylor, chief customer officer at American, said in a press release. “Part of that dedication includes making travel even more enjoyable for our loyal members, who inspired this opportunity.”
Additional Benefits Come as Justice Department Moves Forward with Antitrust Probe
The continued integration of the Northeast Alliance comes after the U.S. Department of Justice announced an antitrust lawsuit against the two carriers. Although attorneys for American and JetBlue filed a motion to have the suit dismissed, Reuters reports federal lawyers are pressing for the legal action to continue.
By Summer 2022, American says the Northeast Alliance will offer around 500 daily departures from New York’s three major airports and 200 daily flights from Boston Logan Airport (BOS). The two also have plans to increase international flights, including JetBlue’s entry into the Canadian market.
