Delivery Marks Plans for Onward Growth
In a statement, the carrier confirmed that it had received this landmark delivery from the manufacturer’s facility in Mobile, Alabama. This newest addition to Spirit’s fleet – one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient in the industry – was prepared for onward service at the airline’s maintenance facility in Detroit.
Spirit also confirmed that the acquisition of this new craft was part of a continued growth plan at the airline. Indeed, the airline added 14 new planes to its fleet in 2022 and has plans to add a total of 26 this year. One of these, Spirit has said, will be a fuel-efficient A321neo aircraft.
The airline has operated an all-Airbus fleet since 2006 and is investing heavily in the A320neo family of craft, which feature technical advancements to enhance fuel efficiency, decrease emissions and reduce noise levels. Additionally, new acquisitions to the Spirit fleet will have upgraded interiors featuring wider, lightweight seats while high-speed Wi-Fi is now available on the airline’s A320 and A321 craft.
A Milestone for Spirit’s Guest Experience
Speaking of Spirit’s plans for growth, Ted Christie, Spirit Airlines President and CEO, said, “Our new, fuel-efficient aircraft allow us to deliver on our promise to give our guests both an affordable and great experience. Spirit’s pilots truly enjoy flying our modern aircraft fleet, and we’d like to thank Airbus for their long-term partnership. I’d also like to recognize all our Spirit family members and business partners who prepare our planes for service and keep them in tip-top shape with safety as their top priority.”
Jeffrey Knittel, President and CEO of Airbus Americas, Inc., added, “The 200th aircraft delivery from Airbus to Spirit Airlines is not only a major milestone, but also reflects the trust they have in our products that provide the best passenger experience their customers demand combined with the cost and environmentally efficient operations the airline needs. Spirit has one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the U.S. thanks to the benefits offered by our A320 family of aircraft.”
