The hotelier began integrating the new Nightly Upgrade Award program for all users on Thursday, January 11, 2024.
“New” Awards Expands Certificate Usage, Available Inventory
The hotel brand announced in November 2023 they would sunset the former Suite Night Award program for the new award program. Starting now, Marriott Bonvoy members who have certificates will see Nightly Upgrade Awards in their accounts.
The renewed program adds five more hotel brands available for awards: The Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, Aloft, Element, and Protea Hotels. Only 14 brands are excluded, including the all-inclusive resorts, timeshare properties, and The Ritz-Carlton Sub-brands.
Nightly Upgrade Awards are earned two different ways. Travelers can earn five Nightly Upgrade Awards as an Annual Choice Benefits when reaching the 50 Elite Night Credit and 75 Elite Night Credit milestones. Those who hold the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card can also choose to earn five Nightly Upgrade Awards after spending $60,000 on eligible purchases using the card.
Unless travelers choose a different Annual Choice Benefit or spending reward benefit, their default awards will be the Nightly Upgrade Awards.
While the certificates will expand available inventory, not every certificate will guarantee an upgrade. The hotel company says certificates will be “based upon availability,” which may include “premium rooms” as well as suites. In addition, anyone holding Suite Night Awards which have converted to Nightly Upgrade Awards will not see an expiration date extension.
To see the new program in action, Marriott travelers can login to the Marriott website, or update their Marriott Bonvoy app.
