The financial services company opened their latest lounge at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
New Lounge Features Three Centurion Chefs in Space Inspired by DC History
The new space is located in Terminal 2 of the airport, a short distance from the South Security Checkpoint. With views of both the airfield and the Potomac River, the Centurion Lounge will be open Sunday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The lounge space was designed to reflect the unique architecture and designs of the nation’s capital. Art installations include pieces by Claudia “Aziza” Gibson-Hunter, D.C. native Maggie O’Neill, and Lori Katz. In the central dining area, flyers can look up at a ceiling sculpture consisting of 260 lanterns, paying homage to the lanterns denotating the city limits when it was founded in 1791.
Instead of partnering with a local chef for their meal inspiration, the Centurion Lounge will fall back on three favorites they have worked with for previous spaces. Chefs Michelle Bernstein of Miami, Ravi Kapur of San Francisco, and Michael Solomonov of Philadelphia will all work together to come up with the kitchen’s unique menu.
The bar will feature flavors by local favorites. Headed by Centurion Lounge mixologist Jim Meehan and wine director Anthony Giglio, signature cocktails for the lounge include the “Haku Hanami” inspired by the famous cherry blossoms in D.C., and the “Ambrosia Spritz,” with bitters and liqueurs from Don Ciccio & Figli. Wines from local Virginia wineries will also be on the menu.
The opening of the lounge at Reagan Washington National Airport marks the latest move in a rapid expansion of the company’s Centurion Lounges at major airports across the country. In February 2024, American Express opened the world’s biggest Centurion Lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), and still has plans to open new spaces at Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
