A fear of flying can be debilitating, but a Delta cabin crew member helped make things a little less scary for a frightened passenger on a recent flight from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).
“It Really is a Wonderful Reminder That There Are a Lot of Good People Out There”
In a photo that’s since gone viral, Delta crew member Floyd Dean-Shannon – who was working onboard the New York-bound flight – can be seen kneeling in the aisle of the plane while holding a passenger’s hand in an attempt to comfort her.
The moment was captured by Molly Simonson Lee, who was also traveling on the flight. Speaking to ABC affiliate WSOC-TV, Lee explained that she was touched by the actions of Dean-Shannon, adding, “He just had this connection and warmth and calmness and she responded to that and the moment was just so beautiful.”
Check out this gem of a flight attendant that was on our flight from CLT to JFK. This woman was so nervous about flying, so he explained every sound and bump and even sat here holding her hand when it still got to be too much for her. @delta , Floyd Dean-Shannon deserves a raise! pic.twitter.com/vvb90vRudA

Thanks to a recent Twitter post, Dean-Shannon’s sense of compassion has been brought to the attention of Delta and while some hope that his actions will result in a raise, Lee just hopes that his kindness reminds everyone that, “When you see something like that, it really is a wonderful reminder that there are a lot of good people out there.
Although Delta has not publicly commented on the viral photo caught in the moment, Dean-Shannon could still walk away with a bonus for doing his job well. The Atlanta-based carrier recently announced payments of over $500 million to their employees as part of a profit-sharing plan, going directly to bank accounts on the company’s “Employee Appreciation Day” on February 14, 2023.
