Hyatt and MGM Resorts End Partnership in September 2023

In a quiet update posted to the MGM Resorts website, the hospitality company announced they would end their strategic partnership with Hyatt effective September 30, 2023.

Partnership Ends Tier-Qualifying Nights, Reciprocal Points, and Status Matches

Neither Hyatt nor MGM Resorts offered any explanation for ending their relationship. Instead, MGM made a short statement in an FAQ posted online: “After careful consideration, MGM Resorts and World of Hyatt have decided to end their strategic relationship effective September 30, 2023.”

As a result, the two have started the process of unwinding their reciprocal benefits, starting with the status matching. World of Hyatt members who matched into MGM Rewards before Friday, July 14, 2023, will keep their status through January 31, 2024. MGM Rewards Gold status allows travelers to waive resort fees when staying at MGM properties.

Current eligible reservations made through Hyatt for MGM Resorts properties or through MGM for Hyatt hotels will be honored and will earn the respective tier qualifying credits through the end date. Reservations that extend beyond September 30 will not earn any reciprocal awards in either loyalty program.

For travelers who booked a stay at an MGM Resort through World of Hyatt and need to make a change on a stay ending before September 30, changes can be made by contacting Hyatt customer service. Any changes made for stays extending beyond September 30 must be cancelled and rebooked through MGM Resorts.

The end of Hyatt and MGM’s partnership leaves only one major gaming company with a worldwide hotel partner. Caesar’s Entertainment is partnered with Wyndham Rewards, allowing members to status match and exchange points between the two programs.
